Viruses, Spoofing, and Other Nasties
There's a lot of bad out there.
No other way to put it. Computer viruses and worms stealing or destroying your hard
work. Trojans secretly taking control of parts of your computer for someone else's
use. People spoofing friendly or business email senders in order to trap you. The
list goes on and grows continually but what to do?
- Naturally, the first rule of thumb is be careful! If a message arrives with an attachment
that you weren't expecting DO NOT OPEN IT!
- The second rule is, "When in doubt, don't" (or at least ask
HelpDesk@prairie.edu first)
- Finally, if you believe you are infected, immediately get in contact with someone
from PITS at ext.3395 or via HelpDesk@prairie.edu.
It may be nothing but, like biological
infections, computer infections can spread and you caution may save others grief
(and work).
